Archives - Quiet Room  Our original documents go back over 800 years and include items that range from property deeds to diaries, poor law records to parish registers, and school log books to servants wages and accounts.  To help us preserve our written heritage we ask customers to view original documents in the Archive Search Room only and to handle documents with care. When you first visit us you will provided with some guideline on handling orignal documents and we encourage all our visitors to read these. They will also be available for consultation on tables in the Archive Search Room. You are welcome to bring books and maps from outside the room into this area with you.  Laptops can also be used and plugged in here. The tables in this room are numbered and we ask you to use these numbers when ordering a document through the main Help Desk so that our document production team can bring your requested item directly to you. The History Centre is often a busy and vibrant space, so during your visit you may prefer to use the Archive Search Room for quiet study.
