What We Do
The Museums Advisory Service helps museums in Wiltshire by:
- acting as professional curatorial advisers to volunteer-run museums
- providing training and development for all museum staff and volunteers
- advising museums how to catalogue and care for their exhibits
- providing grants to carry out museum projects
- helping museums meet and maintain national standards, such as museum accreditation
- helping museums design and produce displays and exhibitions
- advising how to improve access to museums and their exhibits
- helping museums attract new visitors
- carrying out county wide projects such as setting up websites and digital photography
- publicising and promoting all museums
- hosting ‘Wiltshire Treasures’ a web catalogue of Wiltshire museum collections
The independent museums supported by the service range from voluntary community-run museums to those with internationally important collections.
