Welcome to the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, your passport to the past.
The History Centre, focal point for heritage services in the county, is making final preparations to reopen to the public. From Tuesday 25 August we will have new opening hours and procedures to ensure we are Covid-secure:
- The History Centre will be open Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm. We will be closed Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays until further notice.
- It will not be possible to browse all library collections and indexes so all documents – up to a maximum of six – must be ordered in advance. A week’s notice is required. The History Centre is following The National Archives guidance to ensure materials are safely shared and stored.
- Government regulations require visitors to wear a face covering while in the building, unless you are exempt.
- Please note that food and drink cannot be consumed on the premises.
Commenting on the reopening, Cllr Richard Clewer, Cabinet Member for Heritage, said: “The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre is one of our treasured sites which holds a wealth of important historical material. I am delighted we can announce the date it can finally open again and I’m sure this will be good news for many.
“The measures put in place follow the latest public health advice and will ensure those visiting can do so safely.”
